Polycarbonate production

Polycarbonate is formed from Bisphenol A either in a phosgene based or phosgene-free process. In both of these processes a wide range of mixer applications in different stages are well known.

These are:

  • mixing of carbon monoxide with chlorine to form phosgene
  • dispersion of organics with caustic for washing purpose
  • admixing of small amounts of different additives

The static mixer SMI™ secureswithin short distance a homogeneous mixture to ensure optimal conditions for reactions. It creates uniform droplet size distribution of the washing liquid to facilitate mass transfer

Customer advantages

  • Uniform distribution of concentration and temperature
  • Minimized side reactions, higher yield
  • Low pressure drop
  • Short installation length
