Nitric acid production

Nitric acid is obtained by ammonia conversion in two steps. In the first step ammonia is oxidized to nitric oxide with the air oxygen in the presence of a platinum catalyst. The static mixer SMV™ secures a homogeneous mixture between ammonia and air to provide the optimal operating conditions for the catalyst.
In the off gas treatment the NOx containing tail gas is mixed with ammonia in front of the reduction reaction. The static mixer SMV™ provides a homogeneous mixture and uniform temperature profile in front of the catalyst.

Customer advantages

  • Uniform distribution of ammonia and temperature
  • Longer life cycle of the catalyst (up to 3 times)
  • Reduced ammonia consumption in the oxidation step
  • Prevention of catalyst overheating
