Liquid Liquid Coalescers

Overview

Sulzer offers a range of products designed to accelerate the separation of either primary or secondary immiscible liquid dispersions. Coalescers – and their inherent benefits – are often considered preferable to conventional gravity separators.

Sulzer Mellaplate™ and Sulzer DC Coalescer™ are ideal for separation of primary dispersions where droplet sizes are generally larger than about 60 microns.

Sulzer Dusec™ Cartridge Coalescers are available for high efficiency separation of secondary dispersions where droplet sizes are usually smaller than 30 microns.

Sulzer DC Coalescer™

The essence of the Sulzer Sulzer DC Coalescer™ design is to use a composite of two materials with very different surface free energies - typically metal and plastic. This simple principle offers notable advantages over conventional, single medium alternatives.

Sulzer Dusec™ and Dusec Plus™

In secondary dispersions, the droplets are so small they do not readily wet a surface or settle under gravity - typical drop sizes are in the range of 1 to 30 microns. In cartridge form with the liquid flowing from the centre radially outwards, the Sulzer Dusec™ Coalescers are made up from a selection of fibre materials.

Sulzer Mellaplate ™

Sulzer has introduced an innovative Mellaplate™ (plate pack) separator. It is specifically designed for applications where an improvement in the performance of conventional gravity settlers is needed, and coalescer packings may be unsuitable due to fouling problems from a high concentration of solids or waxy compounds in the feed; or when minimum pressure drop is required.
