Sulzer Mixers are used for a wide range of mixing processes in the Chemical Process industry. Its applications range from mixing of liquids at various viscosities, mixing including reaction, gas liquid contacting/ mass transfer and absorption, gas mixing and liquid evaporation. To cope with corrosive chemicals the mixers are available in a wide range of materials. Mehr

| Styrene monomer production |
Styrene monomer is produced by a catalytic dehydrogenation reaction of Ethylenbenzene. Ethylbenzene gas is mixed with steam and fed to the reactor. Mehr
| |
| Ethylbenzene production |
Ethylbenzene is produced by a catalytic alkylation reaction between Ethylene and Benzene. Ethylene gas is dispersed and brought in intimate contact with Benzene liquid to facilitate absorption. Mehr
| |
| EDC (1,2 Ethylene dichloride) production |
EDC is produced by contacting and absorbing Ethylene and Chlorine gas in an EDC reflux liquid stream. Mehr
| |
| Maleic anhydride production |
Maleic anhydride is obtained by catalytic oxidation of n-butane. The static mixer SMV™ facilitates this reaction by providing a homogeneous mixture between n-butane and the air stream.
The static mixer equalizes reliably the concentration and the temperature profiles of the mixed gas streams to provide uniform gas mixture within short distance and suppress side reactions. Mehr

| Phthalic anhydride production |
Phthalic anhydride is obtained by catalytic oxidation of o-xylene. The static mixer SMV™ enables the evaporation of the liquid xylene and the subsequent homogeneous mixture between gaseous xylene and air. Mehr
| |
| Nitric acid production |
Nitric acid is obtained by ammonia conversion in two steps. In the first step ammonia is oxidized to nitric oxide with the air oxygen in the presence of a platinum catalyst. The static mixer SMV™ secures a homogeneous mixture between ammonia and air to provide the optimal operating conditions for the catalyst.
In the off gas treatment the NOx containing tail gas is mixed with ammonia in front of the reduction reaction. The static mixer SMV™ provides a homogeneous mixture and uniform temperature profile in front of the catalyst. Mehr
| |
| Formaldehyde production |
Formaldehyde is obtained by catalytic oxidation of methanol.
The static mixer SMV™ provides within a short distance a homogeneous mixture between methanol and air to ensure the optimal operating condition for the catalyst.

| Terephthalic acid production |
Terephthalic acid is used to produce polyethylene terephthalate (PET) by catalytic oxidation of p-xylene in acetic acid in the presence of air. To ensure an optimal reaction the catalyst is mixed into the xylene/acetic acid mixture.
The static mixer SMI™ provides within short distance a homogeneous mixture between the catalyst, xylene and acetic acid to ensure the optimal operating condition of the catalyst.

| Polycarbonate production |
Polycarbonate is formed from Bisphenol A either in a phosgene based or phosgene-free process. In both of these processes a wide range of mixer applications in different stages are well known. Mehr
