Excellent mixing performance combined with excellent cleaning abilities made this mixing solution to a well accepted technology for continuous processes. Static mixers are used of the various industries in the food segment (e.g. dairy, sweets, beverage, ingredients etc.).
Applications range from blending, dispersing, foaming, aerating, conditioning, heat exchange to various other operations in the liquid, gas and sometimes solid field.
Mixing
In continuous or semi-batch mixing of food products, Sulzer static mixers are installed for a large variety of applications. Shear sensitive products, gas-liquid systems, as well as solid containing substances can be mixed perfectly with Sulzer static mixers.
Blending of miscible liquids and dispersing of immiscible components like edible oil with N2 or adding CO2 to beer are examples of standard static mixing applications.

Sulzer static mixers provide considerable contributions to product quality and reduction of running cost:
- Easy cleaning and sterilization in place (CIP)
- Uniform product treatment
- Reproducible product quality
- Shorter process time
- Maintenance not necessary

Heat Exchange
The Sulzer mixer-heat exchangers SMXL® or SMR® are well suited for continuous cooling, heating or sterilization of food products. Some of the characteristics like short process time, compact design, cleaning in place ability (CIP) and homogenizing capability make the Sulzer heat exchangers very suitable for efficient heat exchange duties.
